Sunday October 2nd – A full day of fun
Mateze Design is The Mbira Centre’s design department. As Chief Designer, my work involves designing for Installations, Publicity material, Events, Exhibitions and creating decorative designs for our Mbira Resonators.
September is Mbira Month and Mateze Design is celebrating this 5th edition by conducting a full day fun workshop painting your own Calabash. You can use it as a resonator to play your mbira in and/or as an object d’art for home or office.
Please join us in having a fun day decorating your own Deze, the Shona word for an mbira resonator. Bring your own favourite design: from a Mandala to Java print, a symbol, a picture of your totem, a message, anything that inspires you.
You will be able to paint following your intuition and let the painting happen or using an image or geometric design for inspiration. Your chosen design can be realistic or abstract. I will support you in making your idea a reality.
These pictures are examples of calabashes painted by different people 🙂
